Non-Spinal Joint Pain

This category is meant to describe painful conditions that are not directly related to the spine. These conditions involve the joints and soft-tissues of the shoulders, elbows, wrist, hands, hips, knees, ankles, and feet. Dependingsport injuries on our specific work and activities of daily living, certain body parts are often subject to painful repetitive stress conditions.  These repetitive stress syndromes are highly variable depending on the person. For example, an office worker who sits at a computer all day can suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome, neck pain, lower back pain, and headaches due to repetitive postural strain. The positions and postures that we spend extended periods of time in throughout the day put us at risk for injury and early degeneration.

Much like other painful musculoskeletal conditions, an integrated approach utilizing a combination of hands-on therapies, physical rehabilitation, and nutritional support is most effective. Lifestyle factors such as proper posture, sleep, hydration, and stress-relief techniques will also be emphasized as they play a critical role in the development and management of repetitive stress injuries.
